I remember being six years old and having my maternal grandfather visit our family for a few days. (I have written about him before and will include links to a couple posts below, in case you have interest in reading those.) One day, Grandpa Scott told me a riddle:
“Adam and Eve and Pinchmiquick went down to the river to bathe. Adam and Eve got drowned. Who do you think got saved?”
My little brain whipped out the answer (duh!): “Pinchmiquick!”
And so… he did!
After my mind was able to wrap around what had just happened, I thought that was very funny, and have occasionally relayed that riddle myself. 🙂
Yet, hidden within the silliness is a real truth.
To a large degree, the “Adam” and “Eve” aspects of our autonomic nervous systems have become “drowned” within the river of emotions (energy) that surrounds the earth. Most humans today are stressed, existing with their “TRAUMA” button stuck on, and incapable of maneuvering through the toxic energy-in-motion (e-motion) that we are all swimming in. The “Adam,” dorsal branch of our vagus nerve, and “Eve,” ventral branch of our vagus nerve (both a part of the Tree of Life–vagus nerve–within man), get drowned. Rather, “Lucifer” (the sympathetic nervous system) usurps control over the mental kingdom. And that leaves “Pinchmiquick”… or, “Lucifer,” the “natural man” who is “an enemy to God (our Truest and most empowered Self),” to rule and rein (“with blood and horror on the earth”).
Paradoxically, the objective of mortal life is Self-discovery (gnosis, or becoming unified with our highest True Self, and with that holy union, becoming united with ALL That IS), which can only be found as one takes responsibility for the mastering of their emotions. In scriptural terms, this is: “Be STILL and KNOW that I AM God.” This is real Intelligence. The mastering of one’s own emotions is the ultimate “success.”
Yet, few realize that the true mark of “success” is not the “paid off BMW,” the initials behind one’s name, the surplus in one’s bank account, or any other “honors of men” bestowed by men. Rather, True and Eternal “success” is the capacity to hear and correctly act upon one’s pure Inner Direction (Intuition) which is only possible as one becomes the master of their emotions by consistently utilizing the ventral vagus nerve as their “Overseer” in life.
Two Kinds of Intelligence (Rumi)
There are two kinds of intelligence: one acquired,
as a child in school memorizes facts and concepts
from books and from what the teacher says,
collecting information from the traditional sciences
as well as from the new sciences.
With such intelligence you rise in the world.
You get ranked ahead or behind others
in regard to your competence in retaining
information. You stroll with this intelligence
in and out of fields of knowledge, getting always more
marks on your preserving tablets.
There is another kind of tablet, one
already completed and preserved inside you.
A spring overflowing its springbox (well). A freshness
in the center of the chest. This other intelligence
does not turn yellow or stagnate. It’s fluid,
and it doesn’t move from outside to inside
through conduits of plumbing-learning.
This second knowing is a fountainhead
from within you, moving out.
Written by Rumi, in the 13th century C.E., this poem perfectly captures our current society. Rumi speaks of intelligence that comes from the outside-in and compares it to True Intelligence which comes from the inside-out and is accessed “in the center of our chest.” This True Intelligence is that which “Jesus” also taught in Matthew 5, culminating in verses 11 and 12. To “rejoice with exceeding gladness”… within one’s “center of our chest” regardless of the difficulties we face, turns on this instrument of True Intelligence.
Jesus’ continual injunction for “adults” to “become like little children” is a plea to switch the role of “Overseer” of our mind from “Lucifer’s” plumbing (the sympathetic nervous system) so that the Ventral Vagus Nerve is once again (like it was when we were pure little children) the master controller in our lives.
Little children, pure, untainted little children, operate from the ventral vagus nerve. As such, they have a confidence tempered with meekness. They know they do not have mortal “intelligence” and must look to others to assist them in maneuvering through their temporal needs, yet they also know that they have the capacity to meet each hurdle life presents. With the ventral vagus nerve engaged, unadulterated little children radiate a light, an “Intelligence” that has been called “charity,” or “the pure love (light) of Christ.” Remember, that “Christ” is a designation for the greatest and most powerful energy/ vibration there is. “Jesus” became this power and so is it possible for each one of us to discover within ourselves this light/ Intelligence/ charity. With this charity, it is easy and natural for a little child to feel and appropriately respond to another: empathize. Those who have charity literally bathe others in the Light (“Intelligence”) that radiates from them. Here is a precious-to-me experience where I share a personal experience with charity: https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-best-and-worst-things-your-child-has-ever-said-to-you/answer/Kimberly-Davis-Wallis
Yet, in the wrong hands, children’s natural birth-right, their charity, is “trained” out of them. Growing up physically, perhaps even physically strong, they learn to adopt weak emotional characteristics that leave them stunted as their pure light and radiance becomes “ADULT-erated” like the other “old children” who teach them. In this way, a place-change ensues: “emotionally strong yet physically immature” children learn from and become like “emotionally weak and physically mature” oldsters.
The following song, also hits the mortal dilemma squarely on the head. In school, in our homes, even in our “down-time” entertainment, children are taught to override their intuition, to utilize “hard-thinking” stemming from fear and competition instead of allowing the true intelligence that is available via the ventral vagus. The two types of intelligence are mutually exclusive. In actuality, the “intelligence” provided by “Lucifer” via the SNS and operating concurrently with the “fight or flight” response is “foolishness.”
Because most “adults” do not know how to be emotionally mature, our children have floundered. Yet, as I recently wrote (http://loveistheanswer.info/q-is-it-better-to-share-our-struggles-with-someone-we-trust-or-keep-them-private/), even little preschoolers can be taught to preserve this inherent preciousness.
Instead, most are taught the following formula:
I feel bad = YOU are bad!
Yes, parents are quick to fly into frenzied emotion and judge the little participants as “good” and “bad.” Because of this, children quickly learn that to be “rescued” is to be “loved” and requires them to become “victims.” As such, any bad feeling is projected onto the “other” instead of taught to be looked at squarely and respectfully in an effort to learn what that bad feeling has to teach.
Few have been taught and mentored to respect the “enmity” they feeling inside (the dark and gnawing feeling of conscience when one is out-of-alignment with their intuitive knowing of the High Way to proceed). Instead, they attempt to cast the feeling out towards others, projecting the guilt in attempt to impugn responsibility for their bad feeling away from them self.
These are the two types of “Intelligences” that Joseph taught in 2 Nephi 2:14. According to the story, we have a loving father (Lehi) speaking to his wayward sons, attempting to teach them this very concept… how to be responsible, empowered and emotionally mature individuals instead of the “poor me, life’s not fair” victims they were stuck in: “And now, my sons, I speak unto you these things for your profit and learning; for there is a God, and he hath created all things, both the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are, both things to act and things to be acted upon.” In other words, without the religious rhetoric: You exist (were created) to be an agent unto yourself. Grow up! Stand uprightly and make choices from within the inner and purest recesses of your being! ACT for your selves… rightly and with wisdom. Do not play the victim, the weakling. Gain wisdom. Learn gnosis, who you Really Are. Grow Up!
In other words, and with other words, this father was attempting to teach his stuck-in-their-Luciferian-brains sons how to switch from the “reptilian mind” that meanders up the spine and operates when one is in fear and judgment (“the fight or flight response” of the SNS) to the “Intelligence mind” that wanders from the brainstem, under the heart and through the chest when one is operating with confidence and trust (“the tend and befriend” response of the PNS). Yes, as promised, I will teach You, the reader, how this is done. In fact, there is so much more I am eager to share with you in subsequent posts. I also encourage each of you to review the two preceding posts on this subject, starting with: http://loveistheanswer.info/the-two-trees-in-the-garden-part-1/ where I discuss the three modes (brains) of operating the body.
