I speak much about finding, and loving and knowing and BEING *YOU.* I encourage, even IMPLORE you to really heed my message. And what is my message? Nothing more or less than the message of all those who have gone before me, yet made more plain. I am endorsing and exhorting one to LIVE the Words of Christ, but NOT the adulterated, twisted words that have been ascribed through “middle-men.” I point each humble and sincere seeker who is ready and WILLing to *find, *love, *know, and *BE them Self to the ORIGINal lessons the one known as “Jesus” gave in his great “Sermon on the Mount.”
Finding, loving, knowing, and BEing one’s Actual Divine Self is Being *AUTHENTIC.*
How do you distinguish between being “authentic,” or true to yourself, and being “selfish?”
Being “authentic,” or “true to your actual self,” is Your (capital Y) goal… whether you (lower case y) recognize it yet or not. 🙂
Authenticity is the state of a pure little child (usually around 3–4) who has not yet adopted Inauthenticity. Being True to one’s Self (one’s “True Self”) is the actual state of being that Abraham Maslow was attempting to explore and document which allows for one to continue on until he reaches“Self Realization.” Authenticity was personified (though hidden and twisted) within the story of “Jesus” as the state of his being as he intently followed and finally reached the top of the mountain (being “translated”) in order to deliver his “Sermon on the Mount:” Matthew 5–7. Matthew 5–7 (See the link to the right.)
Authenticity was why “Jesus” was able to say, “You’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father” and “the Father and I are one.” This is the place of single-mindedness where there is only silence within and one is of a “sound mind” with no confusion or cognitive dissonance. This level of awareness and execution of life leads one to “gnosis” or KNOWing, and is in direct contrast to being filled with knowledge or worldly wisdom. Indeed, Authenticity brings Intelligence and the ability to tap into Universal Wisdom.
Authenticity is the state of Being at which the LDS Endowment (and the LDS Book of Mormon as well) hints continually. Indeed, unknowingly to most, Authenticity is behind every “mystery school” and all “Masters” of Life. Although most TRUE “Saints” and revered humans through time have achieved or come close to achieving this state, they have usually been condemned and hated by the masses during their pursuit of “Self-Realization.”
There are tremendous impediments to completing one’s journey back home to Authenticity and yet everything is at stake to one’s successful completion. Nearly each and every other individual in existence is allegorically a “dragon” lying in wait upon one’s path, usually unknowingly intent on distracting or preventing victory. This is only because They have become inauthentic and, thus, are serving their egoic self to some degree or another.
I, myself, became Inauthentic at three years old. I have memory of my choice and what led up to it and have written about my experience here: https://www.quora.com/When-did-you-stop-being-yourself/answer/Kimberly-Davis-Wallis
I “split” at that time. Just as every other individual does at some point. I became, in my toddler attempt to survive, Inauthentic. I became “passive aggressive.” I did not want to “rock anyone else’s boat,” so I chose to do whatever I could to avoid direct confrontation. In my own way, I took a detour from my original intention and began living the best I could in ways to “make people happy and bring joy to them.” Before you judge me “schizophrenic” I will point out… You did that too! 🙂 Although some become angry and rebellious, closing down their hearts far more than I ever did, each one of us become counterfeit from our original purity to some extent. We HAD to. It was our path to survival in this world.
However, we each, also, eventually, come to the point where we decide: “Enough is Enough! I want to find Truth, Real Truth!” When we start opening our minds and examining our hearts with honesty, we realize that “not everything is adding up! Let’s get to the bottom of this business of life.” THEN, we are in for the biggest roller coaster ride in existence, along the path of Authenticity and towards Self-Realization.
Although each of us, and every one and every thing in existence, are “selfish,” there are levels to our selfishness. At the one end of the continuum is the individual who has no regard for anyone else’s needs but exists with the central theme of “What do *I* exclusively want? What benefits ME?!” This is the one who is, though possibly physically mature, stuck in emotional infancy. At the other end of the spectrum is the “Master” or the one who has reached Self-Realization. With this frame of mind, the individual realizes that in the long run, or with eternal perspective, that which I do benefits all of us, me included. Paramount within our mind is the question: “What is the most correct action each moment that contributes to the well-being of Each of Us collectively… for the long-run?” I call this the “Good for All” mentality, or, as the book of Revelation states, it is having “the Mark of the Father in one’s forehead.”
Living with one’s individual self as the mark of the target is scripturally entitled the “devil,” “the arm of flesh,” or “natural man.” It is said that “the natural man is an enemy to god,” and that one should not trust in the arm of flesh. I have called it the “my will” versus “Thy Will” syndrome. Living for one’s own will appears to benefit, yet the benefit is temporary and yields greater impairment.
In this way, and in answer to the above question, “being selfish” is acting without long-term perspective of the good of everyone equally, while “being Authentic” is being True to One’s Original Self WHO IS CREATED TO BE A SOCIALLY BENEFICIAL BEING!
If one conducts every choice in life by first reflecting upon “How can I best serve the good of all for the long run?” they will become more and more congruent (because one’s self is a part of the “all”) and they will benefit the planet and every other “one” upon it. This is the highest translation of the…
Beginning from the lowest rung of awareness upon the trek up the mountain from even before one’s first desire to become Authentic and then leading one to Self-Realization, these rungs or stair-steps include:
1) “What’s in it for me? What do *I* individually want?” When there are individuals living from this level, social harmony is impossible and chaos reigns with these “free radicals” executing their own self-centered will.
2) “How can I treat another as I would want to be treated?” (This is the frame of reference of “justice” and “equality” and can be termed as living “the Mosaic Law.” This is the level that many who believe they are “good” people currently operate from. Yet, neither are they “good” nor “God’s people.”)
3) “How can I treat another as they would want to be treated?” (This is a place of compassion and kindness, or the level of “Christianity.” Living at this level, one “turns the other cheek” and “goes the second mile,” yet without true understanding (wisdom or charity), this is a place of “passive aggressive” application of action without sincerity of heart.)
4) “How can I treat another as THEIR AUTHENTIC SELF would have me treat their Inauthentic self in ways that will assist them to become more and more congruent while likewise blessing each and everyone of us (including my self) as well?” This is the level of wisdom/ Sophia and is the level of a “Christ” or “Master.” This is the state of Being only allowed by Authenticity.
When one lives Authentically, they experience deep and lasting peace, contentment, clarity of direction and awareness. Understanding them self, they also understand others. This is true empathy. Unless and until one achieves this level, Authenticity or the “Self Real-I-zation” it leads to might sound as a vague or theoretical illusion or as an unreachable “impossible dream.”
Those who live Authentically seek for the integrous re-connection of each and every one of us where we truly live “with one mind and one heart and where there is no poor among us.” Because of the level of JOY and peace which they feel, integrous people give their individual desires up in order to be of service to the greater good. This is an experience that no one can possibly imagine until they draw near to this “top of the mountain” state of Being them self.
Here is one of my many answers written in attempts to assist YOU to gain Authenticity. https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-best-strategy-for-boosting-self-confidence/answer/Kimberly-Davis-Wallis
Simone de Beauvoir: “I tore myself away from the safe comfort of certainties through my love for truth. And truth rewarded me.”
Rollo May, author of “Man’s Search for Himself”: “The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice…it is conformity.” Many people live their lives, conforming to everyone else in their social circle, without knowing why or where they are going. Their lives are shaped by circumstances, by things happening TO them, by exterior forces, instead of purposely creating the lives they want to live.
Albert Einstein: “Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his own intelligence.”
Because the nature of all creation is to expand in awareness and experience, ever growing and learning, a gathering of consciousness ensues. Always there is an innate “knowing” that it must increase. It MUST grow. To be alive is to expand, to push the envelope of creation.
Growth demands that we leave “balance” (essentially, “rock our own boat”) to explore, learn and create a new level of awareness and understanding. This brings a larger “world”… a greater amount of “balance” / happiness.
The more growth experiences are met with peace and allowance, the more “magnetic” the personality becomes and the more radiant and loving the person.
Many an individual has been handed a golden growth opportunity by their life’s experiences, just to have them put their head in the sand, dig in their heels and whine, unwilling to face the challenge and succeed in acquiring the further growth and the greater capacity for happiness and joy that could have been theirs.
However, through our well-meaning but ignorant society today, “growing up” usually comes through a systematic dismantling of the “real” nature of a child. Poignantly presented in the lyrics by Supertramp of “The Logical Song” is how many of us were “raised.”
“The Logical Song” by Supertramp
When I was young
It seemed that life was so wonderful
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees
Well they’d be singing so happily
Oh joyfully, oh playfully watching me
But then they sent me away
To teach me how to be sensible
Logical, oh responsible, practical
And then they showed me a world
Where I could be so dependable
Oh clinical, oh intellectual, cynical
There are times when all the world’s asleep
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am
Now watch what you say
Or they’ll be calling you a radical
A liberal, oh fanatical, criminal
Oh won’t you sign up your name
We’d like to feel you’re
Acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!
At night when all the world’s asleep
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am, who I am, who I am.
The need to know (or better, remember) who one REALly is is beneath all thoughts, desires, and actions of humanity. Many of us have been side-stepped in this pursuit by ignorant, albeit well-meaning parents and society. Until the needs of a human are completely met and the stresses of providing for these needs are relieved, one can never realize truly “who I am, who I am, who I am.”
Indeed, the answer to this riddle forms a chiasmus: “I AM WHO I AM!” But, “although it sounds absurd,” Who AM I?”
Let’s explore those needs so we can at least have the roadmap for discovering this greatest of all human pursuits.
The lower, most basic needs of humans can be considered the physiological needs. These are programmed in for our experiences here in mortality and allow for species perpetuity and to remain in existence. These include: shelter and safety, thirst and hunger, rest and sleep, and, eventually as one goes through puberty, sex. TheHumanityParty has the solutions to these basic physiological needs being satisfied for every individual human being and can be researched at The Humanity Party® http://humanityparty.com/ The Humanity Party® also has the solutions to provide all people with the basic necessities of life or the first step to give all people a chance to not merely exist but LIVE for the Self Realization of our mutual Divine Self.
After these basic needs are fulfilled and the stress taken off of merely existing, the higher, emotional needs take precedence. These are the needs to be accepted by a group, gang or family; appreciated within that group for our unique contribution to the group or community; and the need to be loved and to give love for one’s intrinsic value.
The most important question for all of us is how to become our mutual Divine Self.
The answers to this question and all questions are already buried deep within this Divine Self. That’s why it’s the most important question. To tackle this one is to tackle them all. Believe it or not, we already know the answers to all the questions in the universe!
Then why can’t we remember all things? The reason is that our mortal “vehicle” needs a tune up! One’s brain must be stripped of all belief systems so that one becomes, again, like a pure little child. Open, teachable, meek, humble, AUTHENTIC. In addition, one’s body must be respectfully cleansed from impurities as one begins to honor and respect is as the TEMPLE it is. Then, the Real Truth that has the power to set us free can be digested, understood, and allowed to nurture and grow our spirit/ emotions in alignment with the divinity of our Actual Self. The most direct tune up is found in the back of the Sealed Portion. It is the CORRECT version of the Sermon on The Mount found traditionally in Mathew 5-7 (see the links to the right of my home page) and also found in 3 Nephi 12-14 of the Book Of Mormon. This work has the power to bring BACK in to one’s memory ALL the things hidden from the foundation of the world!
Our parents, teachers, religious leaders, society gave us the best they had to give, though it was not always about being humane. Those that meant well were likewise reprogrammed early and didn’t even know they were using compulsion and punishment at times to not reflect the light we already had. Instead, a more worldly kind of conscience was attempted to be installed within each of us! We’re more than just who we were taught we were or appeared to be to our self and others. Together, we are a part of a Divine Self and it is this inner compulsion that we feel in times of deep serenity and contemplation that is drawing us back “HOME.”
The pious religious have unknowingly been chained down, yet You, me and everyone have the latent power deep within our BEings to become our ultimate authority! As one AUTHENTICALLY continues up one’s spiritual/ emotional mountain, one finally arrives at the pinnacle. This “translation” into a higher state of BEing, one’s “Self-Realization” requires profound and significant adjustment yet leads to heights unimaginable to most.
May we all Authentically become our Divine Self and assist one another to get there, experiencing the grand Graduation Ceremony as one is released from mortality’s probationary state, having fully gone through “the eye of the needle” and transcended every challenge to discover our Real State of Existence. This will be the subject of tomorrow’s post. I hope you will join me for that revelation.
In my pursuit of Real Truth, I have given up everything. Crawling through the “eye of the needle,” I have learned the *mysteries* and am now giving my life to assist YOU to dis-cover Who *YOU* really are, along with your unique gift to offer humanity. As you learn to seek (in the right place and with purified intent), you WILL find treasures of lasting value, along with every promised reward. Together, we will establish a society of humane beings and live life ALIVE, on PURPOSE, and with a sociality unequaled… because we will each BE and view each other as equally and profoundly DIVINE! Please… catch this Hope and Vision and join with me.
